I know how hard it is to tell a real Black Friday deal from an old coupon that’s still online. Buy the wrong one and you can end up paying more at renewal than you saved on day one.
My advice is simple. I’d pick the plan I need first and then compare Black Friday deals for it. That’s why I list the offers dated 2026 first and label earlier promotions by year.
Browse the offer pages by name, category or promotion year. An earlier promotion’s price or coupon may no longer apply.

These pages keep the dates of an earlier promotion or don’t state a year. Check the seller’s checkout before you rely on a price or coupon.
No offer pages match these filters. You can clear the filters or try another name.
These guides compare the offers in one category or from one brand.
It depends on what you already pay for. I’d start with the tools that are about to renew, because a discount on something you use every day saves money. A discount on something new generally adds one more bill.
Black Friday 2026 is on Friday, November 27. It always falls on the day after US Thanksgiving, which is the fourth Thursday of November, so the date moves between November 23 and 29 each year.
Earlier than most people expect. These are the patterns I see in the offers I list on this page:
So, you don’t have to wait for November 27. I wouldn’t hold off on a live offer at a price that works for you, unless the seller has announced a deeper discount for the day itself.
For software, the difference hardly matters. Nearly every software offer I list covers both days, so the better day is the one when you have time to compare plans.
| Detail | Black Friday | Cyber Monday |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 date | November 27 | November 30 |
| Started as | A store shopping day | An online shopping day |
| US online spending, 2025 | $11.8 billion | $14.25 billion |
| US online shoppers, 2025 | 85.7 million | 75.9 million |
Cyber Monday is the bigger online day for spending, while Black Friday still draws more people. The spending figures come from Adobe’s 2025 holiday results and the shopper counts come from the National Retail Federation’s survey.
Physical goods are where the 2 days can really differ, because stores run separate door-buster and online-only prices. It is wise to check both days if you’re buying a laptop or a TV.
Cyber Monday is the Monday after US Thanksgiving. The name comes from a 2005 press release by Shop.org, the online arm of the National Retail Federation, and it described the Monday sales jump that online stores were already seeing.
Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday is often called Cyber Week. Adobe counted $44.2 billion in US online sales across those 5 days in 2025.
For most software, expect 25% to 50% off. Hosting and VPN offers advertise much bigger numbers, because the discount applies to a first term and the renewal brings the price back up.
This example uses made-up prices for 2 plans that do the same job.
| Detail | Plan A | Plan B |
|---|---|---|
| Regular price | $10 a month | $6 a month |
| Black Friday offer | 80% off year 1 | 40% off 2 years |
| Year 1 | $24 | $43.20 |
| Year 2 | $120 | $43.20 |
| 2-year total | $144 | $86.40 |
Plan A has the headline but Plan B costs $57.60 less over 2 years. That is why I compare the total over the same period and ignore the percentage.
I recommend choosing the plan you need before comparing the discount. A cheaper first year can still lead to a more expensive renewal.
A percentage discount only helps when the underlying price and plan are comparable. You should confirm the final checkout price on the seller’s site before buying.
The most common trick is a big discount off a list price that nobody pays. I covered how this works for plugins in fake discounts on WordPress plugins, and the same signs apply across online stores.
Countdown timers deserve the same doubt. If the timer resets when you come back the next morning, that sale must be having a very long last day.
A deal is much easier to judge when you’ve made your decisions before the sale starts. I’d go through these 6 steps in early November.
Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States. Retailers and software companies often run promotions around that date, with some continuing through Cyber Monday.
You don’t need to wait for the calendar date to compare plans. You do need the seller’s current terms before treating an advertised price or coupon as available.
The name came from Philadelphia police. In the early 1960s, officers used “Black Friday” for the day after Thanksgiving, because the shopping crowds and traffic meant long and difficult shifts.
A public relations effort tried to rename it “Big Friday” and that didn’t stick. The popular story about stores moving “into the black” came much later, and Ben Zimmer’s history of the phrase traces it to the 1980s.
The name spread across the US during the 1980s and 1990s, and the event now runs far beyond one day. The National Retail Federation counted a record 202.9 million shoppers from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday in 2025.
So, it is no surprise that software companies, which have no stores or stock to worry about, run their sales in the same week.
No. Thanksgiving is on the US federal holiday list and the day after it isn’t, though some employers give the day off anyway.
No. The directory includes offer pages with earlier promotion dates and pages without a stated year. You can filter by promotion year, then check the linked page and the seller’s checkout for current availability.
Sometimes, but you shouldn’t assume that they do. Many hosting and software promotions reduce only the first billing period. The renewal price and term determine the longer-term cost.
A lifetime deal can make sense when the product already meets your needs and its license terms cover the use you have in mind. I wouldn’t buy solely for a future roadmap feature. Support, update rights, usage limits and the vendor’s continuity still matter.
Yes, when you were already going to buy the tool and the total cost over the billing period is lower than usual. A deal on something you don’t need costs you money at any discount. I’d compare the sale price with both the regular price and the renewal price before paying.
Most do, because software stores sell online worldwide. The price can still differ by country, and many stores add local tax at checkout. You should check the final cart total in your own currency.
The promotion may have ended, the code may be tied to another plan or the seller may restrict it to new customers. You should check eligibility and the final cart price before trying to combine discounts.
I’d start with whatever renews next. Find its offer in the directory, compare the total over 2 years and buy it only if you would have paid for it anyway.
