Toshiba (Dynabook) Laptop Black Friday Deals

If you searched for a Toshiba laptop Black Friday deal, you’ll mostly find old stock. Toshiba sold its laptop business to Sharp in two steps, 80.1% in 2018 and the rest in 2020, and the company that makes those laptops today is called Dynabook. The Toshiba-branded laptops still listed for sale are refurbished or leftover units that are several years old.

So the useful question this Black Friday is which of two things you want: a current Dynabook Portégé or Tecra, which are business laptops from the same team, or a cheap old Toshiba that may not run Windows 11. I’d take the first one or skip the brand entirely, and the sections below show why.

If you only want the best laptop deal this November, my Black Friday laptop deals guide has price targets for 9 current laptops, from the MacBook Neo to the ThinkPad X1 Carbon.

What Happened to Toshiba Laptops

Toshiba made laptops for about 35 years before it sold the business. The handover took two years:

  • 2018: Toshiba sold 80.1% of its PC business to Sharp.
  • January 2019: the business was renamed Dynabook Inc.
  • June 30, 2020: Sharp bought the remaining 19.9%, and Toshiba confirmed its exit from laptops that August.

Dynabook kept the old Toshiba model names. Portégé, Tecra and Satellite Pro laptops are still sold, mostly to businesses, schools and public-sector buyers through Dynabook’s own store and authorized resellers.

Dynabook Black Friday Deals

Dynabook’s current US lineup is business-first. These are the models and launch prices worth knowing before you judge a Black Friday discount:

ModelProcessorLaunch priceBest for
Tecra A45-M (14-inch)AMD Ryzen PROfrom $859A budget business laptop
Tecra A65-M (16-inch)AMD Ryzen PROfrom $1,099Big-screen office work
Tecra A40-M and A60-M Series 2Intel Core Ultra (Series 2)from $1,199Everyday business use
Portégé X40-M Series 2Intel Core Ultra (Series 2)from $1,199Lighter business travel

Dynabook’s sales are low-key next to Dell’s, Lenovo’s or HP’s. Its discounts show up on its US store’s offers page and through business resellers, so check both in late November and compare any sale price with the launch prices above. A Dynabook makes sense when you want a plain business laptop with a good keyboard and full-size ports, or when your company already buys from a Dynabook reseller. For a personal laptop at the same price, a ThinkPad, a Dell or a MacBook Air has far more reviews and deal history to judge a price against.

Should You Buy a Refurbished Toshiba Laptop?

Only with care. The newest Toshiba-branded laptops date from 2019 or earlier, and Windows 11 officially supports Intel 8th-generation processors and newer. Many older Satellites and Tecras run 7th-generation or older chips, so they stay on Windows 10.

Microsoft extended free Windows 10 security updates for home users to October 12, 2027. That buys an old laptop one more year, not a long life. These are the checks I’d run on any refurbished Toshiba deal:

  • Check the exact processor against Microsoft’s list of Windows 11 supported processors before you buy.
  • Look for an SSD. Many Toshiba laptops from that era shipped with slow spinning hard drives.
  • Insist on at least 8GB of memory, and expect a worn battery on a laptop this old.
  • Buy only with a return window of 30 days or more.
  • Compare the price with a new budget laptop. A 16GB Windows laptop like the ASUS Vivobook 16 has already sold for $529.99, and a Chromebook Plus for under $400.

Dynabook is the former Toshiba laptop business under a new name and owner. It kept the Portégé, Tecra and Satellite Pro model names.

Where can I buy a Dynabook laptop in the US?

From Dynabook’s US online store and its authorized business resellers. Check both during Black Friday week, because offers can differ.
