The type column matters as much as the price. A builder theme replaces your theme, a builder plugin sits on top of one, and an add-on needs its builder installed and licensed first.

Bricks is a good example of the lifetime math. Its Agency plan is $249 a year for unlimited sites, and Ultimate is $599 once for unlimited sites, so the lifetime license breaks even in about 2.4 years. Bricks is a theme, though, so it replaces your current theme.
Which Page Builder to Buy
Starting a new site? I’d look at the block-based tools first (GenerateBlocks, Kadence or Spectra) or Bricks if you want a full visual builder. Both keep you closer to standard WordPress than the older shortcode builders did. Neither makes leaving free: builder-specific blocks, templates and dynamic data still need rebuilding if you switch.
Already invested in Elementor? Then the math flips. An add-on that extends what you have costs far less than a rebuild, and Essential Addons or ElementsKit on a sale costs less than a day of migration work. Buy deals that deepen your current stack, and leave a second builder alone.
Before buying an add-on pack, check these:
- Overlap: Elementor Pro already includes many widgets that add-on packs sell. Count the widgets you’d actually use that Pro doesn’t have.
- Site limit: add-on licenses are often priced per site, while your builder license may cover more. Match the two.
- Asset loading: some packs load scripts only on pages that use their widgets, others load more broadly. Test a real page before and after activation.

When to Skip a Page Builder
Skip this page if you’re happy building with the block editor alone. A page builder you don’t need costs a renewal every year and a rebuild when you leave.
Never run two page builders on one site. They each load their own styles and scripts, and the editing experience gets confusing for anyone who works on the site after you.

It is if you build visually and want a large ecosystem of templates, add-ons and tutorials. For a simple blog or brochure site, a block theme with a block library usually does the job with less on the page.
Are Elementor add-on deals a good buy?
They’re a good buy when you need widgets Elementor Pro doesn’t include. Check the overlap with Pro first, because many add-on packs repeat features you already pay for.
Is the Bricks lifetime license worth it?
Ultimate is $599 once for unlimited sites, against $249 a year for Agency, so it pays off in about 2.4 years. It’s worth it if Bricks is already your builder for client work. Try it on a project before committing.
How hard is it to leave a page builder?
Content survives, but the layout usually doesn’t. Pages built with builder-specific elements need rebuilding in the new tool. Block-based builders store content closer to standard WordPress blocks, which makes a later switch smaller but not free.
