Best WordPress Product Review Plugins for Schema and Star Ratings

A WordPress product review plugin should fit the kind of review you want to publish. An editorial review block is useful for your own assessment of a product. A customer-review plugin is useful when other people need to submit their experiences. Choosing between these comes before choosing the design of the stars.

I built GT ACF Blocks, one of the options below. It suits a structured editorial workflow and can install its free field framework automatically. Its schema defaults still need checking, and it isn’t the answer to every site that needs reviews.

For a new editorial blog without that dependency, I would start with Ultimate Blocks. If your existing block suite already has a suitable review block, check that before adding another. The comparisons below focus on usable free features, schema controls and the work you take on by choosing each plugin.

Quick Picks by Review Type

The fastest way to narrow the list is to identify who supplies the review. A score you enter, a visitor’s vote and a customer’s written submission need different controls.

These aren’t interchangeable recommendations. Someone collecting customer reviews shouldn’t have to maintain them by typing each one into an editorial scorecard.

Best Plugins for Editorial Product Reviews

An editorial review block presents your verdict. It should make the score and its reasons easy to maintain, while leaving you responsible for the assessment itself.

The free editions of the main candidates differ in a few useful ways:

FeatureGT ACF BlocksUltimate BlocksOtter Blocks
Basic review blockFreeFreeFree
Separate field frameworkACF Pro (paid) or Secure Custom Fields (completely free; automatic setup)Not requiredNot required
Integrated pros and consIncludedPro enhancementIncluded
Overall scoreEntered manuallyAverage of feature scoresAverage of feature scores
Rating presentation1–5, numeric score and starsStars or percentages1–10 by default; optional site-wide 1–5 setting

If you want the overall score to reflect a weighted judgment, manual entry gives you that control. If every criterion should carry equal weight, an automatic average avoids a second calculation.

GT ACF Blocks

GT ACF Blocks is worth choosing when you want the review details together in a field-based interface. Secure Custom Fields is completely free, and GT ACF Blocks is free too. You don’t need to buy ACF Pro to use this review block.

  • Automatic setup: When you install and activate GT ACF Blocks, it automatically installs and activates Secure Custom Fields if neither ACF Pro nor Secure Custom Fields is installed.
  • Existing installation: If either framework is already installed, GT ACF Blocks leaves it in place. Make sure that existing framework is active; you don’t need to replace it or install both.

Its Product Review block combines:

  • A product name, optional image and visible overall rating.
  • Separate feature ratings, pros and cons.
  • A summary and optional price or product link.
  • Optional Product or SoftwareApplication JSON-LD using the review fields.
GT ACF Blocks Product Review example with a 4.5 score, feature ratings, pros, cons and a summary

The fictional example from my block-editor tutorial shows how the summary works inside an article. Its schema is disabled because it is a demonstration, not a review of an actual product.

There are specific limitations in the current block:

  • The overall score is entered manually; changing a feature score doesn’t recalculate it.
  • A blank offer price becomes zero in its JSON-LD.
  • A blank offer-expiry date falls back to the end of the current year.
  • Merchant return and shipping defaults can appear even when they don’t suit the review.

Those defaults are a reason to check the output, even when the box looks right. If they can’t describe your review accurately, the visible block can remain in use with its schema off and a separate schema source handling the markup.

The Product Review tutorial covers the actual fields and both implementation routes. Choose this block for its editing model, not because a schema switch removes the need to check facts.

Ultimate Blocks

Ultimate Blocks is the free starting point I would suggest for a blogger who wants an editorial review block without adding an ACF-compatible framework. Its basic Review block is in the free plugin; the entire block has not moved behind a paywall.

The distinction is the enhancement you need:

  • Free: a review summary, feature ratings, an overall score and an action button, with review schema support.
  • Pro: integrated pros and cons with schema and other premium block enhancements.
  • Scoring: the overall result is calculated from the feature values, with star or percentage presentation.

The vendor’s live demo shows the basic feature-score and summary layout. Its Review block page separately identifies the pros-and-cons enhancement as Pro.

You can still write pros and cons as ordinary blocks beside the free review. That gives readers the information, but it doesn’t turn those separate lists into the Pro block’s integrated fields or schema output.

The pricing page lists annual plans from $39 for 1 site and $79 for unlimited sites. It also says renewals use the full price, so the initial figure shouldn’t be treated as a guaranteed renewal cost. Pay for Pro when its actual enhancements justify it, rather than because an older roundup called every Review feature paid.

Otter Blocks

Otter is the first option to assess if the site already uses its blocks. Its free Product Review block includes a fuller editorial layout with criteria and pros and cons, so a second suite may give you more maintenance without solving a new problem.

Two settings deserve attention:

  • Enable Rich Schema controls the review block’s structured-data output.
  • Use 1–5 Scale for Review Block changes the default 1–10 scale across the site’s review blocks, rather than just one review.
Otter Product Review demonstration with a 7.3 out of 10 overall score, criteria and pros and cons

The live Otter demonstration uses a 10-point scale. Changing the global scale on an established review site needs a check of the older reviews too.

Otter calculates the overall score from the feature values. That suits equal-weight criteria, but it is less flexible than a manually entered verdict when one criterion matters much more than the others.

The free Product Review block should also be kept separate from Review Comparison Table, a Pro feature. The free-versus-Pro reference and settings reference cover those boundaries. You don’t need the paid comparison block merely to publish a single review.

Spectra Legacy

Spectra Legacy is mainly relevant to a site already using that plugin. Its existing Review block may be enough, and keeping a working layout can avoid an unnecessary migration.

The vendor distinguishes two products:

  • Spectra Legacy: the original plugin, maintained for security and compatibility.
  • Spectra Blocks: the separate product receiving new development.

Legacy is not described as deprecated. But a Review block available in Legacy should not be assumed to exist in a different package because both carry the Spectra name. For a new build, check the exact product’s block list before buying through the Spectra product site.

Schema Tools for an Existing Review

If your visible review already works, a schema integration may be all you need. The tradeoff is that a score or price maintained separately from the article can become outdated unless you update both.

Rank Math

If Rank Math is already your SEO plugin, check its existing Product schema controls before buying another schema plugin. The basic Product template includes review-rating fields; Pro adds specific properties and enhancements, including pros and cons.

It also offers review-location and shortcode options for displaying review information. Calling it incapable of any visible review output would be too broad, although its main role here is maintaining the structured data.

Rank Math Pro Product schema controls for product URL, review location and review shortcode

Rank Math keeps schema configuration in the post editor. The screenshot shows the installed Pro interface; the Product schema documentation marks which individual fields require Pro.

The decision is about the required property, not whether a pricing page says “advanced schema.” A basic editorial Product review and Pro pros-and-cons fields are different requirements. Its Pro license also covers personal sites; client-site use needs the appropriate commercial tier.

When another block generates the review schema, choose which integration will maintain that review and keep it accurate. This doesn’t mean removing unrelated Article, Organization or breadcrumb data from the page.

Schema Pro

Schema Pro is useful when the main job is mapping structured data across a collection of pages. It makes more sense for repeatable rules than for adding a single visible scorecard.

The current pricing page lists:

  • Annual: $69 introductory pricing, with $79 shown as the normal price; unlimited websites and 1 year of updates and support.
  • Lifetime: $229 introductory pricing, with unlimited websites and lifetime updates and support.
  • Renewals: full-price renewal for subscriptions. The page lists prices in USD; confirm the final tax-inclusive checkout amount.

The limitation is that a mapping rule can repeat the wrong fact across several pages as easily as the right one. Product-specific ratings and prices need product-specific sources.

For an occasional review, the free product review schema generator may be enough. It supports Product and SoftwareApplication output with input checks, while leaving the visible review to your existing layout.

Plugins for Reader Ratings

Reader-rating widgets collect feedback. They should say what the visitor is rating, because “this article helped me” and “I recommend this product” are different claims.

Rate My Post

Rate My Post is the better starting point here when you want feedback about the content itself. It combines a rating widget with feedback handling, rather than asking you to build a customer-review system just to learn whether an article helped.

Its documented controls include:

  • Rating and feedback widgets.
  • Options to prevent accidental or repeated votes.
  • Cookie, IP and logged-in-user restrictions.
  • Rating statistics and a top-rated-posts display.

Those restrictions reduce repeated submissions; they don’t establish one verified human per vote. Shared networks and visitors clearing browser data can affect the result.

For a cached site, check both the submission and the total shown to a later visitor. A successful click doesn’t prove that an old cached average has refreshed. Custom-post-type features and some extra controls are paid, so check the edition if your content lives outside ordinary posts and pages.

kk Star Ratings

kk Star Ratings is the simpler candidate when you mainly need a compact visitor-rating widget with placement controls.

It supports voting restrictions and structured-data configuration, but the reviewed subject still has to match the page. An IP restriction is a traffic control, not purchase verification or proof of a unique customer.

Choose it for the smaller rating workflow. Choose Rate My Post when collecting useful feedback after the score matters more than keeping the widget minimal.

YASR

YASR has a useful distinction built into its interface: Overall Rating for the author’s score and Visitor Votes for readers’ ratings. That can suit a publication that wants both, clearly labeled.

The maintenance record is the reason it is not my default recommendation for a new site:

  • The directory currently lists its last update as April 10, 2025.
  • Its tested-to field is WordPress 6.8.8.

That doesn’t prove a vulnerability or a broken installation. It does mean that compatibility with a newer stack needs checking before you rely on it. An existing working YASR installation deserves a measured upgrade decision; a new project has more recently updated options for straightforward visitor feedback.

Plugins for Customer Reviews

Customer-review systems have to collect, assign and moderate submissions. Their data needs to remain manageable after the first attractive review appears on the page.

For a WooCommerce store, start with its built-in product reviews. Core already supports ratings, moderation and verified-owner restrictions. Its documentation also describes an opt-in Customer review request (beta) feature, so check whether your version has it and whether it covers your reminder needs before adding another plugin.

Site Reviews

Site Reviews is the strongest starting point in this group for written reviews you want to manage inside WordPress. It provides a review-submission workflow and can assign reviews to content or users, rather than leaving you to maintain a collection of manually typed testimonials.

Its core features include:

  • Approval and submission restrictions.
  • Review assignment to posts, pages, categories or users.
  • Spam protection and configurable forms.
  • Import/export and rating summaries.
  • WooCommerce and SureCart integration.
Site Reviews submission form with stars, review title, written experience and name fields

The live Site Reviews form collects a rating and written experience. Moderation and assignment settings determine what happens to that submission afterwards.

It isn’t limited to business testimonials or sites without a store. The important paid boundary is that some advanced workflows sit in add-ons, including purchase reminders through Review Notifications.

Also check hosting compatibility: the current release requires WordPress 6.8 or later and PHP 8.1.2 or later. A submission by itself isn’t proof of a verified purchase, regardless of how polished its display looks.

Customer Reviews for WooCommerce

Customer Reviews for WooCommerce, also known as CusRev, is worth assessing when your store needs a richer product-review workflow than the core features provide.

The free plugin lists:

  • Automatic or manual review reminders.
  • Reviews with photos and video.
  • Product questions and answers.
  • Review and Q&A import/export.
  • Product and review-feed features for shopping integrations.

That reminder capability is a useful difference from choosing Site Reviews and then adding a paid notification extension for the same requirement.

The service configuration matters. CusRev offers an optional verification service, so review where data is processed and which consent and reminder settings are enabled. Incentives should be disclosed, and a submitted product feed is not a guarantee that a shopping platform will accept or display it.

This is a store workflow. It adds unnecessary complexity if all you want is your own editorial review of something you don’t sell.

Reviews Feed

Reviews Feed from Smash Balloon is for showing reviews that already exist elsewhere. Its free offering covers Google Business Profile and Yelp, while additional sources and display options depend on the edition.

The connection detail is easy to miss:

  • Without API keys, the free plugin can display up to 10 reviews for one business after email verification.
  • Ongoing automatic refresh requires the relevant API keys.
  • Additional sources and advanced presentation features belong to the paid offering.

So an initial feed appearing on the page is not proof that new reviews will continue arriving. Check the connection and refresh settings before treating it as a maintained feed.

It also doesn’t convert business testimonials into independent editorial product reviews. Its value is bringing an existing review source onto your site, subject to that source’s access and display rules.

Review Plugins to Avoid From Old Lists

Two directory entries still appear in older recommendations even though they are no longer available for download:

  • WP Review, slug wp-review: closed on May 9, 2025, with the directory stating “Security Issue.”
  • WP Product Review Lite, slug wp-product-review: permanently closed on August 25, 2021 at the author’s request.

These statements concern the exact directory plugins. They don’t establish the status of every commercial product with a similar name. If either is still on a site you manage, preserve its data and plan a replacement instead of downloading an abandoned copy from an arbitrary mirror.

Before You Commit to a Review Plugin

A review plugin earns its place by making accurate publishing easier. The shortlist should come from the required workflow, and the final choice should survive a small practical check on your site.

Check these before moving an established review library:

  • Who owns the score: an editor, actual visitors or verified customers. The labels and schema should identify the same source.
  • What the free edition includes: a free base block doesn’t make every feature in a Pro demonstration free.
  • What happens after a save: the rating, price and link attributes should remain correct when you reopen the content.
  • How it works on a phone: the numeric score and text should stay readable, and the form should work with a keyboard as well as touch.
  • What the real cost is: include required dependencies, add-ons, site allowances and renewal terms.
  • How you leave: check export and migration before deactivating a plugin. Saved block fields are not a guaranteed readable fallback.

For structured data, Google’s review-snippet requirements and Product snippet guidance apply regardless of the plugin’s marketing. A valid test doesn’t guarantee stars, and a review plugin cannot supply evidence that the review itself lacks.

The existing guide to star ratings in Google Search covers the eligibility checks and deeper troubleshooting.

FAQs on WordPress Review Plugins

A few decisions remain once you’ve narrowed the list to the right kind of plugin.

Can an Editorial Score and Customer Ratings Appear Together?

Yes, when both describe the same product and readers can tell who supplied each score. Keep your editorial assessment in a Review and use AggregateRating only for the actual collection of ratings it summarizes. Don’t turn your single author score into an invented customer average or combine it with visitor votes without explaining the calculation.

Can a Plugin Give an Ordinary Blog Post Stars in Google?

A widget can display stars on the page, but Article and BlogPosting are not supported reviewed-item types for Google’s review snippets. A post reviewing an eligible product may qualify when its visible content and structured data meet the requirements. A rating for how useful the article was is a different claim, and no plugin can guarantee stars in search.

Can I Use Review Schema on a Product Roundup or My Own Business Page?

Google’s Product snippets focus on a single product or variants of that product, rather than a roundup of unrelated products. Google also excludes self-serving LocalBusiness and Organization reviews from review stars, including reviews embedded from another platform. These limits don’t mean that every genuine product review on a merchant’s site is excluded; identify the reviewed item and apply the relevant Product rules.

Final Remarks

You probably don’t need several of these plugins. A review block, a schema tool and a customer-review system can all have a place on the same site, but each should have a clear job and a clear source for the data it publishes.

Your next step is one draft using the most suitable candidate from the relevant group. Check the fields you will update repeatedly and the output your reader will see. The block-editor walkthrough will help if you’re starting with an editorial review.

Choose the setup you can keep accurate after the first post.
