Progressive Web App
Make your site installable and work offline with a manifest and service worker.
Overview
Make your site installable on phones and desktops with a web app manifest and a service worker. App name, short name, description, and icons are prefilled from your WordPress settings and site icon, so a working manifest is usually one click away.
Manifest Settings
| Setting | Notes |
|---|---|
| Name / short name | Prefilled from Settings → General |
| Start URL / scope | Default / |
| Display | standalone by default, with optional display_override |
| Theme / background color | Controls the splash screen and OS chrome |
| Icons | 192px and 512px, each with an optional maskable variant |
| Shortcuts & screenshots | Richer install prompts on supported platforms |
| Advanced manifest | Raw JSON merged over the generated manifest |
Service Worker
The service worker precaches an offline shell and caches runtime responses, with deliberate exclusions so it never serves something it should not:
- Skips
wp-admin, the login page, and REST responses - Skips cross-origin requests and anything marked
no-storeorprivate - Caps the runtime cache so it cannot grow without bound
- Precaches URLs individually, so one stale or missing URL cannot abort the whole install
Install prompt is opt-in. The custom prompt is off by default. When enabled you control its title, text, button labels, position, style, and how many days pass before a dismissed prompt returns.
Web Share Target
Optionally register your site as a share target, so content shared from the OS share sheet arrives as a search on your site. Values are sanitized and used only to build a safe redirect.
