Intro

The much talked about Cloud Computing promises to change the way Information Technology People look at delivering IT and the way business people perceive it. This one is now a general and important part of IT.

What is “Cloud” & Why it is Connected to Computing?

The name cloud computing was inspired by the cloud symbol that’s often used to represent the Internet in flow charts and diagrams. Cloud Computing is a general term for anything that involves delivering hosted services over the Internet.

Services? What Services?

The services are broadly devided into three catagories:

• Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS):

Infrastructure as a Service involves Infrastructures, like PC, Laptop, Mobile, Notebook, Mini Note etc..

Plateform-as-a-Service(PaaS):

This involves Plateforms like Remote Server or Database or Remote Desktop.

Software-as-a-Service(SaaS):

SaaS is most important service. It is an application hosted on a remote server and accessed through the Internet. A simple and concrete example of SaaS are the free email systems offered on the internet such as Hotmail, GMail, Yahoo Mail etc. Each program meets the basic criteria of an SaaS application:
•vendor hosts (Microsoft, Google, Yahoo) all of the programs, logic and data in a central location
and provides end users access to this data and the software which is run and used over the world-wide-web (WWW).

Profits of Cloud Computing

A cloud service has three distinct characterstics that differentiate it from the traditional hosting.
• It is sold on demand, typically by the minute or the hour.
• It is elastic – a user can have as much or as little of a service as they want at any given time.
• The Service is fully managed by the provides and the consumer offer nothing but a personal computer or a mobile and Internet access.

Significant innovations in virtualization and distributed computing, improved access to high speed internet and a weak economy, have accelerated interest in cloud computing.
